1 Year Remembrance of Tommy

March 15, 2019

One year ago today since we lost our sweet, wonderful son, Tommy. I have dreaded this day since the month began. I didn’t want to have to relive all the emotions that may come today. I have taken the day off from work to be home with Ron and the boys. Unfortunately Ron was needed for a job in Oregon so it will be just be me and the boys, Ron Jr., Robert and Jon. I’m sure that Christine, my sister, will be joining us at some point today but for the most part I expect to just enjoy being with the boys and missing Tommy together. We miss him every day but I figure this day it may be a little more intense than normal so if I feel like crying at any time I will be at home or with my family instead of on a noisy school bus trying to do my job.

Yesterday I was given a sweet reminder from a very dear friend (thank you Connie Lamb) that God gives us some wonderful memories of people in our lives that will pop into focus from time to time. Even memories you haven’t thought of since you lost a loved one years ago so I have decided I want to try to put as many wonderful memories of Tommy on this blog to see all the beauty in his life, which in turn enriches my life.

One Day Old

March 25, 1997

Tommy was born on a bright spring day at Redlands Community Hospital in Redlands California. He arrived at 9:32 A.M. on a Tuesday. He weighed 7 lbs 5 oz and was 19 1/2″ long. His two older brothers, Ronald and Robert were thrilled for him to arrive. They took such good care of him. 17 months later Tommy became a big brother to Jon and that rounded out our wonderful little family. Tommy was a colicky baby and preferred to be on his tummy as much as possible or sitting up where he could watch everything going on around him, or at least until he wanted to sleep. He even fell asleep once riding on a 4 wheeler behind his Dad!

Favorite Things

Tommy had many favorite things. His family was very important to him and he hated for anyone to be sad or upset with him. He loved his pets, which in turn became part of the family. He always seemed to chose ones that had some kind of defect or problem. He adopted a young cat with a broken leg that ended up having it removed so he had his 3 legged Tiger, best cat ever. So very lovable and never slowed by only having only 3 legs. He had dogs, cats, a guinea pig, a bunny and some aquarium fish throughout his life but his very best friend in the world was his pug Mort. Mort doesn’t think he’s a dog, he thinks he’s a small person because of the way Tommy took care of him.

His favorite color when he was in PreSchool was Blue, but somewhere along the line Green became the top pick for him. He loved the Green Bay Packers, especially Clay Matthews, was it the hair or the attitude?? Maybe both!

He loved to cook and to eat. He loved Gordon Ramsey and Duff Goldman and thought about being a chef for a long time.

With His “Beautiful Wonton” This was his 19th Birthday lunch celebration. He ordered wontons but when they didn’t come he said “hey, where’s my wontons?” The cook heard him and came out and said “oh you no get your wonton? I take care of it right away.” When he came back he proudly presented Tommy with this “beautiful wonton”. The look on Tommy’s face says it all. He told the cook, “thank you very much, I love it”. The cook walked back to the kitchen beaming and we all burst out laughing. Best lunch ever!!

He loved to watch Cloud 9 compete in online gaming and he loved gaming online with his wonderful friends, family and others (especially ones that were competitive and knew what they were doing). He was kind of “a troll” and would be banned from time to time for something he said or did online, not a lot of patience for people that didn’t know what they were doing in games. Definition: A troll or troller in internet slang is someone that starts arguments or upsets people by posting off-topic or extraneous messages in some type of online community. Their goal is to cause people to get emotional and to harass people online. …

The word trolling is a word commonly used to describe a method of fishing. Which brings me to his gift for fishing…..

Fishing

As Jon put it not to long ago, Tommy was the best, laziest fisherman in the world lol…. we had a good laugh over this as it was true. Jon said that Tommy would get all set up on the boat to fish and then take a nap, and then end up catching a big fish, sometimes the biggest fish of the day. On the boat or on the shore I don’t think he ever got “skunked”. Lake, stream, pond, ocean didn’t matter, if there were fish he’d catch one.

Grown into his life jacket finally and catching big pike

Tommy and His Brothers

Tommy and his brothers were always close. They could argue but always had each other’s backs and wouldn’t let anyone else bring any one of them down in any way.

Love of T-Shirts, Especially Sarcastic Ones…

Tommy really appreciated sarcasm as you can see from many of his t-shirts. Most of the time his attitude was to enjoy life and not take it too seriously..

“Don’t Rush Me I Get Paid By The Hour”

Tommy dealt with anxiety and sadly in the end it was too much to deal with. We will never totally understand his reasoning but we try to accept it and for myself I am trying really hard to remember all of the wonderful memories we made altogether. Tommy we miss you so very much, but I know that you are happy and that you miss us too but are always nearby. I feel you and hear you from time to time and I’m sure your Dad and The Brothers do too.

I will continue to add to this blog on many subjects for today I wanted it to be all about TOMMY!!
